“Wabi” originally began as a small, ongoing collection of one-of-a-kind pieces based on the process of setting irregularly-shaped stones in wax designs and casting them straight into metal. This produced all sorts of imperfections as the stones were put through the intense heating involved in metal casting.
Instead of one-off rings made in various sizes, the wabi is now available made-to-order. It is still made with the same process, so when ordering your ring, please be aware that the shape, color and size of your stone may vary greatly from the photos here. And, due to the process, there might be crackling, changes to the surface polish, and even small chips to the stone, as well as the occasional tiny hole in the metal, as tiny stone shards can sometimes burst off the stone and into the metal during casting.
If you appreciate wabi-sabi, find imperfections beautiful, and aren’t afraid of the unknown, this ring might just melt your heart. If you’d prefer knowing exactly what you’re going to get, there are many other rings available in the shop to choose from!
Currently available in natural brass or 10K yellow gold. Not sure which metal to choose? Learn about the differences here.
Wabi comes from the traditional Japanese aesthetic of “wabi-sabi,” which, rooted in buddhist ideas, embraces impermanence and imperfection in the process of creation.
Due to the special process involved, please allow up to 3 weeks for shipment.
